Hi Dionne,

It went something like this:

On the night of Michele's birthday, I presented her with a surprise trip to Spain--we were to leave the following evening. The idea of crossing an ocean with less than a day to prepare wasn't initially as romantic to her as I had hoped it would be (to say the least!). But after reviewing some travel books I had brought home, she soon warmed up to the idea, and by the following evening we were excitedly off to Madrid!

We spent an extended weekend visiting Madrid, Toledo, and finally Mallorca (a Spanish Island in the Mediterranean). It was on Mallorca that I proposed. We enjoyed a terrific meal on the hotel's veranda (it must have been no more than 30 feet from the Med. Sea!), and after the meal we went for a stroll on the nearby beach that was dramatically lit by the light of a full moon (could I have possibly asked for any more cooperation from Mother Nature?!).

After a few minutes, she wanted me to sit on this large rock that was just beginning to be swallowed by the rising tide. She took a picture, and I told her to trade me places so I could get a picture of her. I had been carrying the ring with me for the entire trip waiting for the right moment, and this was definitely it. I told her that the picture wasn't looking right, something was missing. And then I kneeled in the surf and asked her. The diamond could not have performed any better than it did under that moonlight--it was blazing! She was speechless, and then managed a tearful "yes".

I am so thankful to you and Randy (and everyone at Mervis) for helping me make this possible. I am a very detail oriented person, and I know am typically not an easy client to please! But I found you and Randy to be among those people in sales that just sort of "get it"--applying the little details like knowing our names, respecting my budget, and recognizing my specific tastes in jewelry. You showed true class and elegance (a welcome change to the pretentious atmosphere of your competition)and your diamonds speak for themselves!

With my deepest appreciation,

Anthony Hodson

Tina,

I just wanted to touch base with you to share my engagement story. She loved the ring set!! My wife Tara is a nurse so I thought it would be cute to wrap my hand as if I was hurt, but have the ring wrapped to the palm of my hand. When she noticed my hand wrapped up she instantly turned into nurse mode and began unwrapping my "wound" to see what had happened. As she got to the last leg of unwrapping I got down on one knee, then there was that ecstatic moment of silence and then JOY as she realized what was going on, and I said the words!! We were married on May, 17 2003, and have just celebrated our 6 month anniversary. I just wanted to thank you for your service in helping me pick out the ring of her dreams!! She absolutely loved it!! Now the hard part is upping the ante as our years progress. But hey that's the fun part right?!

Thanks again,
Benjamin E. Bivens

Hey Diane,

Wow, what an interesting couple of days. This may be a long email because I want to tell you the whole story. First, after I left [Mervis] on Thursday, I was pulled over right in front of Mervis for making an illegal U-turn. I also had expired plates so I was fortunate enough to receive two tickets. I didn't get to see Trinity's dad Thursday night because things didn't work out for me to get a chance to speak with him. Friday however, I decided to leave school during lunch and go speak with him at work. He thought I was coming by to talk to him about stone siding on my house so he immediately goes into this educational process of everything I ever wanted to know about houses and all the while I'm trying to politely figure out a way to get the topic changed. Finally, he sums it all up and I tell him that I have to ask him a personal question, which, by the way, was about the most difficult question I have EVER asked. So I asked him for his blessing for me to marry his daughter and he asked me if she knew and if we had talked about it. I said no so he said if she says yes, then he'd love to have me as his son in law. Then he prayed with me and sent me on my way back to school.

Friday afternoon I come up to Mervis to get the ring, and go pick Trinity up at her house and tell her we're going out for a romantic evening. I decided to take her to Middleburg and on the way we get pulled over by another cop, again for my tags. I show him my ticket from the day before and he lets me go, yeah! So, we get to Gilberts Corner (where Rte. 15 and 50 meet) and Trinity starts talking about our first kiss, there at Gilberts Corner. Now, I was hoping she would kind of have an aching to go back there that night after we passed that, because that's where I was planning on proposing to her. So, my plan is working thus far.

We go to dinner and have a great time - good food and beer - then around 11 we leave. As we get in the car she asks me if we can go back to Gilberts Corner for old times sake. Now I'm thinking yes! My plan is really working, she's playing right into it, this is going to be great. So, we drive back to Gilberts Corner and what do you know? A police car is sitting right where we had our first kiss! I'm like in disbelief. She says "Baby, I guess it's not meant to be tonight." I'm just thinking "no way." So I turn and start driving away and then I just instinctively pulled a U-turn in the middle of the road and told Trinity that I'm going to tell him to leave because we need our privacy. She starts getting all scared and tells me I'm going to get arrested because I smell like beer, so I asked her to give me an Altoid. She hands me her last one, I pull up next to him and get out, close my door so she can't hear and go up and tell him that I'm trying to propose to my girlfriend right here and I would appreciate it if he would leave because he's spoiling the moment. The guy has all this fast food all over his lap and seat, and he's totally thinking I'm full of you-know-what. So I told him that this was where we first kissed 5 months ago and I had it all planned out but he was there and it was ruining the moment. He asked me if she knew and I told him that she thought I was asking him to leave so we could make out. He starts laughing and asked to see the ring; I show him discreetly, then he tells me good luck and pulls away.

I turn around and she is totally in disbelief with this huge smile on her face like I'm Superman or something, so I tell her to get out of the car so I could hug her standing up (cheesy but that was the best I could do at that point) so she gets out, we start kissing and hugging and then I started thinking about how I want to get down on my knee for her in the mud, but my body wasn't moving, then I realized how I want to honor her and do that for her alone, no one else, and suddenly I found myself on my knees in front of her asking her to marry me. She starts crying and says yes, yes and she gets down in the mud with me and we both start crying and praying and loving. Then I suddenly get this intuition that another cop was coming so I told her we better go. We get in the car and bam! Another cop pulls up with his lights on and comes up and informs me that my tags are expired and asked what we were doing. Trinity says "this" and shows him her hand with the ring. The police officer starts laughing and then tells me that with a ring like that I don't need to pay for any tickets and lets us go, but before he leaves he shines his light on the ring for Trinity to see, and she loved it.

So thank you for all your help and giving me the opportunity to find a ring like that so a story like this could come about. I really appreciate all your help. I hope I didn't go on too long, but that's the whole story.

Thanks,

Michael Wilbourn
