Why Mervis

Why Mervis?
Higher Standards, Superior Diamonds
“I buy every diamond as if it’s going on my wife’s hand.” — Zed Mervis, President, Mervis Diamond Importers
That’s a pretty high standard. But higher standards mean superior diamonds. Zed Mervis travels regularly to South Africa and the other major diamond centers to find the finest diamonds in the world. Because of his stature in the global diamond community, he is among the first to look through the latest production of diamonds. As he likes to say, he’s high in the pecking order so he gets the pick of the litter — and he flat-out rejects diamonds that don’t meet the Mervis standards. Mr. Mervis selects every diamond himself. Unlike other stores, Mervis owns all of its diamonds. This might not seem important, but think about it. We will not invest in a stone unless we’re confident it’s superior. We don’t act as a clearinghouse, passing along unacceptable diamonds to you. In turn, you can be confident that every Mervis diamond is a superior diamond.
Expert Guidance
At Mervis, we have the best customer service in the business. In fact, we’ve changed the way people shop for diamonds. You’ll meet with your personal specialist in a private, comfortable room where you’ll you peruse an assortment of fine diamonds.
With the specialist’s undivided attention and world-class knowledge, you’ll find the diamond that’s right for you. Trust us, it’s not like going to the mall , where part-time employees with no real knowledge daydream of being somewhere else. Nor, like buying off a list from a mass market website where no human has ever examined your diamond for you. And where you land up as the ultimate quality controller only after you've paid in full At your first visit to a Mervis store, expect to answer a few simple questions. What occasion are you celebrating? Do you know what shape diamond she’s dreaming of? Maybe you’ve already done some homework; maybe you have no idea where to begin. Whatever your situation, our consultants are there to guide you from selection to setting. We don’t just want to find you a beautiful diamond — we want to build a long-lasting relationship with you as you make your decision.
Extraordinary Selection
Mervis Diamond Importers prides itself on maintaining the largest, most diverse selection of diamonds in the Washington, DC, area. This means that every day of every week you will have more diamonds to choose from. The extensive Mervis collection includes loose diamonds andstunning rings crafted by today’s hottest designers. From our assortment of dazzling stud earrings and pendants to the blaze of wedding bands and tennis bracelets, our selection of fine diamonds will impress and inspire you. The Best Value for Any Budget
We encourage you to shop around for diamonds. Call it diamond due diligence. We’re convinced that, after you visit the competition, whether in the mall, online or anywhere else, the Mervis difference — in quality, service and value — will be as clear as one of our fine diamonds. Because we have direct access to the mining area in our native South Africa and to the world’s other major diamond centers, we’re able to bring the finest diamonds to our showrooms without the middleman markups. And though Mervis retains a stock of thousands of diamonds, we do not dilute quality . Whereas many stores may accept diamonds of lesser quality in the name of a so-called “bargain,” Mervis accepts nothing but the finest gems.
Understanding the value Mervis offers requires explaining some rather technical points. But because every Mervis consultant is a GIA-certified expert, we’re able to speak to you clearly and concisely. No jargon, no muddying of the facts with misleading, overly technical “diamond speak,” no pulling the wool over your eyes. And never any pressure. Diamonds are formed by pressure, but at Mervis they’re not sold that way.
All Conflict-Free Diamonds
The issue of conflict diamonds is extremely important to us. Our founder, Morris Mervis, started our diamond business in South Africa in the early 1900’s. We are proud of our heritage and are concerned about the welfare of all mine workers in Africa , the greatest source of diamonds on earth. When you buy a diamond from Mervis, be assured it’s the product of responsible mining and the ethical treatment of every person involved in bringing it to our showroom. All our diamonds are in strict compliance with the Kimberley Process, an international system created in 2003 to prevent questionable stones from entering the legitimate supply chain. Mervis rejects any diamond without this documentation.
Mervis urges diamond-shoppers to ask vendors about conflict diamonds. Support only those jewelers who can demonstrate that their inventory isn’t suspect. Education is key. Come in and ask us. We’ll answer all your questions. When you team with Mervis, you team with diamond experts who adhere to a stringent code of ethics and conduct.
Your Diamond Partner for Life
Mervis means forever: We’re your diamond partner for life. If you want to trade up your Mervis center stone or diamond ear studs, simply visit any of our showrooms and apply the full purchase price toward another diamond. We can do this because we own all our diamonds; we know they’re superior. We’re proud of our diamonds. We stand behind them all the way. And we’re happy to take them back when requested .
