Proposal season is well on its way! As the New Year starts next week and Christmas begins tomorrow, some of you might be considering to pop the question. I mean, what better way to ‘ring’ in Christmas and 2015 engaged to the person you love most?
If you have decided that you want to propose this holiday season, but still not sure how, we have listed some of our favorite proposal ideas that sync with holiday traditions and festivities:
- Decorate the Tree Together
One of the more popular ways to propose on Christmas is by popping the question when decorating the Christmas tree together. Make sure to find an ornament that opens up and is clear, so you can place the ring or ring box inside. When decorating the tree, give her the ornament that you are going to propose with. Once she notices what’s inside, take the ornament and get down on one knee. This is one moment that she will never forget.
Have some extra Christmas lights lying around the house? If so, this is a fun and memorable way of proposing. Make sure to get her out of the house before you put the lights up, so she doesn’t get suspicious. You can also set up the lights in a different location that has significance to your relationship, such as where you had your first date or at a local park (just remember you need some kind of power source to make this proposal happen).
- Put Ring in a Bigger Box
If you have ever watched the movie, Serendipity, then you know how this proposal goes. Have the ring in its original box and place it in slightly bigger one. Continue doing this until you reach a big enough box that seems reasonable- you don’t want her to become too suspicious. Make sure stuff some tissue paper in each box so there isn’t too much raddling, especially when she gets to the smaller boxes.
- Write down your New Year’s Resolutions together
Before the New Year begins, you both can sit down and write your top 10 New Year’s resolutions. Make sure you write down the same amount so there isn’t a big difference between the two of you. Suggest for her to read her resolutions out loud first. Once it’s your turn, tell her that one of your resolutions are to either “Propose to [her name]” or “Get married to [her name]”. Before she can process what you just said, get down on one knee and pop the question. She will not expect it at all.
- Ask at Midnight on New Years
Although this might be a little obvious in regards to proposing on New Year’s, it always makes for a special moment. The whole night is a celebration, so asking right at midnight will be a memory you both have forever and it’s also the best way to start the New Year.
- Host a New Year’s Party
Instead of going to a party to start the New Year, you can host one yourself! This is a great excuse to have all of her family and friends in the same place at the same time and for them to celebrate with you the new engagement.
Whatever you choose to do, proposing to someone is a special moment. Remember to make the moment about you and try not to stress too much on all of the details!
