29.6 Carat Blue Rough Diamond Found in South Africa
An extraordinarily rare, 29.6 carat "exceptional" blue rough diamond was found at the Cullinan mine in South Africa.
Mine owner Petra Diamonds says the stone exhibits “outstanding vivid blue with extraordinary saturation, tone, and clarity, and has the potential to yield a polished stone of great value and importance.”
The mine Cullinan mine is used to finding spectacular diamonds. In April, the mine produced a 25.5 ct blue diamond, and in 2008, a 26.6 rough diamond produced the 7 ct Star of Josephine diamond.
“Blue diamonds are among the rarest and most highly coveted of all diamonds, and the Cullinan mine is the most important source of blues in the world,” the company added.
