A pear shaped, 14.82 carat VS1 fancy vivid orange diamond known as "The Orange" will hit the auction block at Christie's. The stone is expected to pull in close to $20 million. The nearly 15 carat stunner is the largest fancy vivid orange stone to ever appear at auction and is rumored to be the largest fancy vivid orange diamond in the world. Orange diamonds, also referred to as fire diamonds are exceptionally rare. The Gemological Institute of America says that strongly colored diamonds in the orange hue are rarely bigger than three or four carats once polished. This diamond, coming in at nearly 5 times that size, is a true stunner. It is more than twice the size of the few fancy vivid orange diamonds ever sold, the largest being just under 6 carats. The Orange will be auctioned off at Christie's on November 12th in Geneva, Switzerland. Other jewels of note in the auction include a 100 carat emerald and diamond necklace by Cartier expected to fetch upwards of $10 million and a Van Cleef and Arpels diamond and emerald earring set that matches the necklace. Van Cleef and Arpels also highlights the show with a mystery-set Magnolia broach, expected to sell for $250,000.
